Digitalization in Manufacturing: TOOLTIP Develops Web Configurator for Special Tools

The procurement of special tools is still associated with considerable effort: customers need to exchange sketches, drawings, and technical data manually with manufacturers. On the manufacturer’s side, many inquiries must be checked and processed every day. This costs time, ties up highly qualified specialists, and delays order processing.

Web Configurator for Semi-Standard and Special Tools in Machining

With our new project, we are addressing this challenge.

TOOLTIP is developing a web-based configurator that digitalizes the inquiry and ordering processes for special tools. In the future, customers will be able to configure and request their tools directly online. Manufacturers, in turn, will receive the data in a structured, machine-readable format and can immediately start with processing and production planning. This significantly reduces communication effort, shortens lead times, and makes the entire order handling more efficient.

With the Web Configurator, we are creating a solution that not only provides our customers with a competitive advantage but also contributes to the overall digitalization of the manufacturing industry. Especially for SMEs, digitalizing processes opens up new opportunities: faster workflows, lower costs, and the relief of valuable skilled staff.

This project "Web-Based Configurator for Special Tools in CNC Manufacturing" is funded by the Economic Program of Schleswig-Holstein 2021–2027 with support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The aim of the funding is to drive digitalization in SMEs and sustainably strengthen the competitiveness of industry in Schleswig-Holstein.
